Tiki God Kane

Artist Statements:

My inspiration for this piece is mainly due to the fact I've never drawn something like this before. I wanted to challenge myself and I felt like the best way to do so was to draw something I was unfamiliar with.

The way I constructed this piece was by first sketching some examples of how I wanted it to look, I used a pencil to do so, so the shading was virtually easy to do. Once I got to the piece however, that became hard to do. I started off outlining the piece and just drawing features I felt belonged, then started shading with a pencil. Once I was done with the shading I then went back over it with the pen (first outlining then finishing the darker shading).

The I'm Not Good at Drawing Eyes nor Glasses Piece

My inspiration was the fact that I'm not incredibly good at drawing glasses, I wanted to do something different that I had never done before. Iv'e only ever really been good at drawing cartoonish versions of things so having to draw it as realistic as I possibly good made it a little frustrating. Iv'e also always had a hard time drawing lips so that was a struggle as well.

I started off drawing the grid lines out, then starting the outlining of the piece.  Once I was done with outlining I started to shade around the glasses and around the nose, then moved down toward the mouth. It was hard to try and cross hatch on a lot of the piece just because of the sheer amount of space on the face of the person I was drawing, but i feel I did well with the amount of time I spent doing this project.

The Incredible Hulk
I Tried

My inspiration was due to the fact that iv'e always loved Marvel, the Hulk and Spider-man were my favorites growing up and i just decided i wanted to try to draw one of them.

I started the piece off by mapping out what i wanted him to look like, then i started with the lightest color i needed to use then to the darker, and then to the darkest. I did my best to blend the colors together to make it look as realistic to the character as I possibly could. Lastly once i was done blending I went over the expression lines to make them darker so you could how he was really feeling.

Suicide Prevention

My inspiration for this piece was the fact that there are a lot of people that don't see suicide as a problem, a lot of people (i feel) are desensitized to things like this now. I feel this is important because suicide is a growing problem in the U.S., i personally haven't been affected by it but it's very real and it's occurring all the time.

The process i used started off with me looking for social issues that were affecting a wide variety of people. I found suicide prevention and decided that i would try to depict that. I started off doing 4 outlines depicting different ways to draw suicide prevention. Next i went to elaborate on the outline i chose so that i could then put it onto my final piece. I used the light table to trace over the elaborated outline and then started with the pen. I started in small/ dark areas and moved to the larger and lighter areas, eventually finishing the piece.

It's Gloomy

My inspiration for this piece was mainly the representation of the Tiki God Kane, I like that he represents creation and life. I also liked the examples I found of him online with the leaves on his head and sometimes on his body.

The process I used to create this piece started off with us drawing out what we wanted our pieces to look like then led to us as a class making the base of the piece and the body. We then started outlining where we wanted things to go and how we wanted the piece to look. Next we started added clay to represent things like the eyes, nose and mouth. Eventually once all that was done we left the pieces to dry and harden and that's where we are now.

The Embrace

My inspiration for this piece was by an original piece called Kiss V by Roy Lichtenstein. A lot of his pieces don't have a direct meaning or message so I wanted to try and recreate this piece with my own touches based on my interpretation of the piece.

I started this piece off by recreating Kiss V and drawing it out into my sketch book. Once I drew out my final draft I was then given a board for me to paint on in which I re sketched it out onto. I then started off by painting the face and the hair, I only spent one day on the piece so I haven't really had time to do much else. I ran out of paint for the face since its a mixture of paints and so I painted the shirt and her lips. I then went and outline the hair and shirt with black since I could't paint the face anymore and that's about as far as Iv'e gotten.

Artist Statement: My inspiration for this piece was just the fact that it caught my eye, the original version of this piece interested me, and i wanted to create my own version of it.

To create this piece i started off outlining where certain things would go, next i started painting the sky so that when painting the trees and mountain i wouldn't have to worry about accidentally blending them together. Next i started on the grass and tried 3 different colors to figure out exactly how i wanted it to look. Then i did the trees, making the bottom the darkest and the closer it got to the sky the lighter the paint got. Next i did the mountain and the tree line in the background trying not to mix the two together and blend them into each other. Lastly i went back over the tree and put leaves on it which i feel like i didn't do to terrible with.

The Apple of My Eye

My inspiration for this piece was 2 separate pieces I found while researching the metaphor for this piece.

My process for this piece started off with me finding the metaphor I wanted to use for the piece. Once i found the metaphor i researched it and found my inspiration for the piece. I then did my four sketches and then went onto my elaborate/ final sketch. After my final sketch i did my final piece and that was that.

Emotions

My Inspiration for this piece was an original piece by Roy Lichtenstein called Crying Girl, it made me think of all the emotions that people feel they have to hide or not show for fear of feeling like a burden.

The process i used to create this piece started out with me finding the original piece. I then sketched it out and tried to put my own touches on it based on my interpretation of the piece. I then traced my interpretation onto our painting boards and painted out the picture.

Coka- Kola Ad

My inspiration for this ad was definitely my love for coke and the brand. I have to admit that i'm a hardcore soda drinker even though i know it's bad for me.

To make this ad I started off by looking at actual coke ads, I then made up my own version of a coke ad by including bits and pieces of coke ads.
